FAQ

Quick answers.

Can NeoWispr translate directly?

Yes. Name the target language, for example „in German“, and keep speaking English. NeoWispr translates in the same moment and inserts the text in the target language.

Does NeoWispr work fully offline?

Yes. Speech recognition runs on-device on your Mac’s Neural Engine. By default no audio leaves your device. No cloud, no account. You keep dictating even in airplane mode.

Are my recordings or audio stored?

No. NeoWispr processes speech recognition directly on-device and stores no audio. Only the finished text lands in your local, searchable history, which you can delete any time. Nothing is sent to a server.

How is NeoWispr different from Apple’s built-in dictation?

NeoWispr uses FluidAudio Parakeet on the Apple Neural Engine instead of the system dictation: no time limit, stronger recognition, system-wide in any app via hotkey, plus live translation and an optional AI polish. Everything stays offline on your Mac.

What does NeoWispr cost right now?

In the open beta, nothing. Download it and use it fully. From version 1.0 the license is 39 € once, no subscription.

Do I need a subscription?

No. NeoWispr is a one-time purchase of 39 €, including all updates within version 1. In the open beta it is currently free.

Which apps can I dictate in?

Any app with text input: Mail, Slack, Notion, Xcode, the Terminal and more. The text lands wherever the cursor is.

Which languages are supported?

German and English run fully on-device. More languages are in the works.

What are the system requirements?

macOS 14 (Sonoma) or newer on an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later). The download is a signed, notarized .zip of around 8 MB.

Can the AI polish be turned off?

Yes. The optional AI polish works locally by default and can be switched off any time. NeoWispr also works entirely without it.

Can I change the hotkey?

Yes. Option+Space is the default. You can map any shortcut you like, including a dedicated key for translation.

How fast is the speech recognition?

The text is there the moment you finish speaking. NeoWispr uses FluidAudio Parakeet on the Apple Neural Engine, which is noticeably faster than classic Whisper models on Apple Silicon.
